Aftercare and Advice
This advice is to help to guide you through the healing process of your piercing and the maintenance of your new jewellery.
Successful healing requires a strict aftercare regime. Neglecting to care for the piercing and bad habits, such as playing with your jewellery will almost certainly lead to issues and complications.
Harsh chemicals, soaps, essential oils and ointments do not improve your healing abilities. In most cases, they tend to delay the healing as they are too harsh for the fresh piercing. Therefore I highly recommend - and stock - sterile saline wound wash.
Simple Cleaning Guide
Wash your hands thoroughly
Spray the entry and exit wound sites of your piercing with your sterile saline solution
Use an ear bud to remove any crusty discharge from around the piercing; do not force it if it is stuck!
Pat dry with a non woven gauze
Follow these instructions 2-3 times daily for a minimum of 4 weeks.
Downsizing Your Jewellery
Your initial piercing is performed with jewellery that is slightly longer or larger in diameter than you will want for your end result. This is to allow for potential swelling of the surrounding tissue and for cleaning.
Once the swelling, if any, has settled please book back in for a jewellery downsize/change and I can also perform a health check on your piercing. I would usually recommend you make this appointment 3 to 4 weeks after the initial piercing.
If a piercing is consistently slept on or constantly moves due to the larger sized initial jewellery, the angle of the piercing can be distorted - "migration". Downsizing your jewellery in a timely manner prevents this.
Is This Normal?
A lot of common concerns with your piercing are NOT an infection, however if you are concerned please don't hesitate to contact me with ANY
questions or concerns you may have with your piercing.
While infection is rare, it is essential to seek immediate professional medical advice at the first signs of infection.
Symptoms can include: sudden onset of swelling, excessive bleeding or discharge of yellow, green or dark coloured fluid. Redness is normal, but excessive redness and/or red stripes coming from the piercing are indicative of a more serious infection.
Fever, upset stomach, vomiting and dizziness can also point towards an infection. Should you experience any of those symptoms, please seek medical advice from your GP immediately.
As a Body Piercer I am unable to give you medical advice.
To help avoid any infections, please avoid touching your new piercing with unwashed hands.
Do not remove your piercing within the healing period, and do not twist or play with the jewellery.
Avoid applying makeup to any freshly pierced area.
Jewellery Care
I make every effort to ensure that your jewellery is installed tightly and securely, however only you can keep it that way!
The jewellery you just had installed meets the high standards recommended by national and international piercing associations (APP/UKAPP) as well as medical grade standards. This means your jewellery is made from safe, implant grade materials, 14k or higher gold, titanium or niobium.
It has been designed by piercers, or with input from piercers, for comfort and piercing site compatibility. If you have selected a Swarovski gemstone from Industrial Strength for example, these have been handmade by skilled jewellers. These pieces come with a lifetime manufacturers guarantee. I personally inspect and process (sterilise) all jewellery upon arrival. This ensures that only the highest quality, safest jewellery is being sold to my clients.
Your jewellery, like any high end product, requires some simple maintenance. Care should be taken to keep ends tightly attached to posts.
Healing Times
This can only be a rough guide as everyone heals at different rates;
Lobe Piercings - They take approximately 9 - 12 Weeks to heal. During this time you should not change your jewellery.
Cartilage Piercings - Tragus, Anti-tragus, Helix, Daith, Conch, Rook - They can take anywhere between 6 - 12 months to heal. During this time most cartilage piercings will need a downsize to help with the healing.
Nostril Piercings - They can take 6 Months to heal. During this time you must not change your jewellery.
Navel Piercing - They can take 6 months to heal. During this time you must not change your jewellery.
Nipple Piercings - They take around 6 months to heal, although some can take up to 12 months. Downsizes may be required throughout the healing period.
Tongue Piercings - The jewellery will need to be downsized after 2 weeks when the initial swelling has subsided. They take approximately 6 weeks to heal.
